Why every entrepreneur should listen to podcasts.

For entrepreneurs, research and keeping tabs on new trends is absolutely vital for your business survival. This is why many are always on social media, reading books, networking etc. doing whatever they can to stay relevant and gain competitive advantage.

Nevertheless, many are also missing the trick. Diversifying research as much as possible. Finding sources where others aren’t looking at.

And that’s why today, I’m talking about podcasts.

What is a Podcast?

A podcast is an audio series, which people can subscribe to for free. They are typically found on iTunes, Sound cloud, Play Store and YouTube with subscribers receiving new episodes on their devices automatically. All you need is an Internet connection.

Podcast listenership has grown rapidly over the past few years, and if you’re not listening, you are not learning.

Why should you listen to podcasts?

  • They’re a great way to expand your knowledge on pretty much anything within business, your relationships, or creating the lifestyle you want.
  • Increase your chances of learning something new and also increase your chances of learning something, which nobody else in your industry knows about.
  • Industry leaders often host their own podcasts to air their views, interview people, and give insider knowledge.
  • Whatever you’re interested in, there’s probably a podcast discussing it–politics, sports, history, music, language, business–you name it.

I’ve just recently discovered podcasts but I admit I’m a bit of a podcast addict. I listen to them when I’m getting ready in the morning, in my car, and even when I’m trying to fall asleep (some podcasts hosts have pretty soothing voices, LOL!)

Switch off your music player and learn something while driving around town, cleaning,  working out or just chilling at home, instead.

But since you are new to this, you will have to sort through a lot to find the good stuff, which is why I’ve gathered a list of my favourite business podcasts to help your business grow and grow as a person too.

My favourite podcasts

Power. Pursuit with Tara Gentile– Sit down and relax for this one. This podcast truly explores how creative people make money, take control of their businesses, and pursue what’s most important to them so that you can too.

Entrepreneur On Fire– Its literally on fire!. This one is produced daily so there’s quite a lot to learn. Every episode has an interview with a successful entrepreneur sharing their journey, their worst entrepreneurial moments, aha! moments, and how they turned that into success.

This week in start ups – Here is something a little different. This podcast has both audio and video episodes. Jason Calacanis brings a new guest from the world’s most successful companies to discuss their best, worst, and most outrageous stories. My favourite episode is the one they had tech entrepreneur Brit Morin, founder of an online community Brit + CO.

Knowledge Bandits– Hosted by Arum Galadima, This is the only African podcast on my list filled with interviews of african entrepreneurs on the continent and in diaspora. Knowledge Bandits is inspiring African entrepreneurs all over the world to take their next leap.

Marleo Farleo– This is a such an honest, inspiring and refreshing podcast, where Marie and her guests share actionable strategies to build your dream business and live the life you want,  — . P.S they are also short episodes compared to others with a lot of laughs too.

GirlBoss– That’s right, this is for all the girls bosses out there who are trying to make their mark in the world. And why not hear straight from world-class girlbosses who have made it? Sophia Amoruso’s podcast is one that’s worth listening to.

Wow, quite a list right? I know, that’s one big mix – which is why it’s worth tuning in.
